Creative Distruction

Create something can also mean to destroy the thing that exists before this new thing. At first it could seem strange that creation also means or brings distruction. Bu  at a second thought it makes all sense. Today was a good example of this Schumpeter theory (1934): we destructed all pre conceived ideas about what is being innovative and were given some tools to explore this new world.  We are speaking about the great lecture from Mitja Lavtar and his method of working with us. In the morning he gave us some tools and a challenge: create a new touristic product  and apply it in Portoroz. We, the Portuguese, were distributed in different groups and created different products. And before lunch came the most fun and, at the same time, the most important task of the day: to test our ideas in real people. So we went outside and stopped people in the seafront and nearby the News Cafe. It was an excellent way of measuring if our idea had potential and get the interest of locals and/or tourists. Portoroz people and tourists were really sympathetic and once we broke the ice everybody was very collaborative and willing to help. Some of us even received suggestions to our business plans.

And as everybody knows being creative whet´s the appetite. Time to lunch at News Cafe. Great meat balls with mashed potatoes and to sweeten our day nothing better than Tiramisu.

With renewed strengths we returned to Mitja Lavtar lecture. With our innovative ideas already tested in the street, it´s now time to upload them to the Tourism Lab website (we are still with our fingers crossed waiting for the investors interest in our awesome and very innovative ideas). And surprise of the day: The mayor of Portoroz came to our class to hear our one minute pitching!! Yes, it´s true. But strangely we all already knew the mayor, he is a very sympathetic guy… there was only one little problem: the mayor wasn´t  the mayor, was Mitja Petelin… but he played very well the character. (Mitja you should consider to apply in the next elections).

Great ideas went out of this working day. And if more rewards were needed they are about to come: The international evening is almost beginning. We will learn more about each others countries and taste their foods and typical drinks. That´s why we are already telling you the day news: from now until tomorrow morning it´s all about PARTY!
