From Piran to the Hinterland in just one day!

Hi there,

Today was the most exhausting day of the Summer School at least until now. It’s becoming usual to wake up almost at the same time that the sun rises, but it’s also positive because we can take more advantage of the day to live more adventures. And for Susana the day started with a very kind surprise from Miha Lesjak: figs.

We started the day with a walk to Piran, where a different challenge was waiting for us: a walking tour in the shape of a peddy paper. In order to know the history of Piran, we had to answer some questions about this medieval city.  We were given a map with some instructions about where to find the answers to the questions. And at some of the check points we had peculiar characters of the Piran history waiting to help us with the answers. It was a very funny tour: three of our Slovenian colleagues dressed up as three sisters from the Venetian times of Piran, and each one had a history to tell and very helpful information to give. It was a very nice way to discover the city and its history. Among other things we got to know who´s the patron saint of Piran, the meaning of the lion statues holding open books, what and where is the shame pilar or how many different types of marine creatures there are in the Aquarium in Piran.

After the quiz we were in the mood for a coffee, but before some of us went to the local market and bought some fruits (more figs for Susana). Everything was really delicious.

Then, time for lunch. Today was risotto day. Iuppieee seafood instead of meat.  It tasted really good.
The country was waiting for us, so we went to Hinterland to see some great examples of eco-farms. The first one is owned by a very sympathetic lady who runs by herself a small farm with great looking products which she sells directly to her clients in a weekly basis. Then we went to another eco-farm where the main production is olive oil. In this farm we learned how olives are grown and all the quality process it goes through. And in the end we were invited to taste that delicious olive oil along with other local produced tasteful products. Everything was great: the olive oil, the homemade bread, the cheese, the wine,,, everything! And the owners of the farm really made us feel at home. Great place to return one day.

And now is time for a quick bath because Saturday night party is waiting for us!
