From sLOVEnija with gastronomy!

One of the nicest things about our accommodation is a balcony where we can enjoy the view to the sea but more important – we can enjoy food there. The day always starts with a breakfast on a balcony. One of us buys a loaf of fresh bread from the supermarket. Today, because it is Friday, we also had jam, chocolate and custard filled doughnuts. Local yogurts are really good and of course fruits, but about those you already read from our first post. It is hard to describe how good tastes cheese and tomato sandwich with local olives
.
For lunch we go to a local pub called News Café. The first course is always salad from seasonal vegetables. Like it is common for Mediterranean kitchen olive oil and vinegar are added to the salad but you will have a Slovenian touch for your salad if you add a drop of pumpkin seed oil. It tastes good. The food has been good but a bit too fast-food like. We have had grilled cheese, breaded chicken, breaded pork. Most of the time the side-dish is French fries. First day they had extremely good grilled vegetables and hopefully we will have them again. To spice up your food, you can use Ajvar. It is a paprika-based sauce that has a funny name for Estonians, because Aivar was a popular Estonian man´s name in Soviet times.  Desserts for lunch have always been different – pancakes, cheese-cake, tiramisu, strudels with curd and with apples.

Since lunch is big, for dinner we usually find something light and often enjoy it with local vine on our balcony. Most popular local vines are: Merlot, Refosk, Malvazija and Rumeni muskat. We remember those well because organizers named each work-shop group after one of those vines. We are all very excited about tonight, because we are planning a small beach picnic with our neighbors.

Workshop on a 11th floor of Grand Hotel Bernardin

Today´s highlight was Steffen´s (our supervisor) decision to take us out from a classroom. We  had our work-shop in probably one of the nicest hotels in Portorož  - 5***** Grand Hotel Bernardin. It is not food related yet but according to our supervisor, there is a very good restaurant nearby, where we might have pizza on our day off.
